I only got it because I've been there. Not sure what exactly about that city is worth a Heritage Site...except that they still mine silver in putrid conditions that were probably only viewed as humane 500 years ago.

Well you have to consider the historical importance of the place.

The Spanish Empire would never have been so powerful if he hadnt Potosi. Also, the trade between China and the West would have been a lot less until the XIX century probably

If you're just making a comment about colonialism, fine. (You could make a similar comment about what neoliberal privatization did to the mining industry in the '90s.) But were your eyes open when you visited the city?

I doubt they were. The Uyuni Salt Flats is a much more impressive sight, although it lacks the historical relevance Potosí had. At one point, Potosí was the most populous city in the western civilization and certainly the richest.

I didn't know it, but mistakenly guessed Bolivia for Macchu Picchu, and got it that way. Then correctly guessed Peru.

Agreed. Easy but fun. We need a series of these to cover a decent amount of the immense number of UNESCO sites.

I just got back from Cologne where I visited the Cathedral. It was absolutely breathtaking! I hope I'll get a chance to visit many other world heritage sites.

Try my sequel I linked to above. If you still find that one too easy I could probably be inspired to crank out a 3rd, more difficult one.

Only two in Africa, should be more. Amazing sites like Axum in Ethiopia or Timbuktu in Mali should at least have some consideration.

I thought Potosi was in Wisconsin. They make great beer, but I didn't realize they were on the UNESCO heritage site list :)

Parenthetically, a serious question, would Notre Dame be removed after the fire? I mean it's a reconstruction now.
